Everything Old Is New Again: FLAX Throwbacks Reimagined

At FLAX, we’ve always believed that great style doesn’t expire. In fact, some of our most-loved pieces today have roots that go way back - rediscovered, redesigned, and remade with new life for the way we dress now.

It’s not unusual for a longtime FLAX fan to tell us about a favorite piece they’ve held onto for decades, or one they’ve been hunting for ever since it was last in a catalog. We’ve done the same. In fact, the Vintage Dress, part of our Core Companions collection, was born from a version of the beloved FLAX Angle Dress. With its boxy shape, deep pockets, and signature seaming, it felt too good to stay in the archives. So, we brought it back, slightly updated, but unmistakably FLAX.

Our Affirmations group, soon to be offered in core colors like Black, Natural, and White, is another nod to the past. Its unisex, utility-inspired silhouettes were heavily influenced by FLAX sibling lines Haymaker and Beekeeper, two collections from decades past that embodied the same values of comfort, durability, and individuality. We pored over old lookbooks and samples here at headquarters to pull together styles that feel just as relevant today, while honoring where we came from.

The Gotcha Blouse in our Wanderlust collection is a reimagining of a timeless FLAX favorite. It’s the kind of piece you’ll wear open or buttoned, to the beach or out to dinner. We like to think of it as a shape-shifter: part blouse, part jacket, part cover-up. It’s the kind of versatility we’ve always loved, made modern with fresh fabrics and styling.

The Cinch Skirt in our Urban group is another throwback we’re loving right now. Recrafted with today’s wearer in mind, it has all the comfort of your go-to casuals with the detail and adjustability that make it feel special. Just like its inspiration, it can go from errand-running to dinner out without missing a beat.

And finally, there’s the Beneficial Blouse, a total staff favorite. Entirely cut on the bias, it hugs just right without clinging and can be worn open or buttoned. We remodeled it from a cotton version in our archive from the 1990s, updating it in medium-weight linen and giving it new purpose as both a blouse and light jacket. It’s a true nod to the past with all the ease of today.

Of course, some favorites never left.

Our iconic Floods, with their easy fit, full elastic waist, and wear-anywhere simplicity, have been a FLAX staple for over 30 years. They’ve anchored countless outfits, adapted through the decades, and continue to be one of our most loved pieces across generations.

At FLAX, we’ve always said our clothes are built to last, but when it’s time for a comeback, we’re happy to make it happen. Whether you're rediscovering a beloved silhouette or meeting it for the first time, we hope these remade favorites bring a little extra joy (and maybe a hint of nostalgia) to your linen season.

And who knows?
With piles of old samples, dog-eared catalogs, and a few long-requested gems still tucked away in our archives, we may just have a few more surprises coming in 2026. Let’s just say: if you’ve been holding out hope for a long-lost favorite…you might want to stay tuned.
